Courchevel is part of Les Trios Vallès which also includes the resorts of Meribel, Les Menuires and Val Thorens and offers a huge variety of skiing on widely differing terrain.
Les Trios Vallès is the largest ski area in the world and includes over 600 kilometres of interlinked pisted runs. It is also considered to have one of the most efficient ski lift systems ever built with some of the best groomed slopes in Europe.
Courchevel is split into five different village. The higher areas are named after the height (in metres) at which they are based, Courchevel 1550, Courchevel 1650 and Courchevel 1850 and the two lower areas are Le Praz and La Tania – both at 1300m
Courchevel 1550 is situated directly below 1850 and offers very quick and easy access to the main ski areas in the Courchevel valley. In addition, some of the slopes back to the village were altered to make them easier, and it is now much more straightforward to ski to this lift from the majority of the 1550 chalets.
Prices in Courchevel 1550 are much more moderate than 1850.There are some friendly bars and restaurants, but nightlife is quieter in comparison to its higher neighbour.
The highest of the five villages of Courchevel is 1850 which is an exclusive resort that is renowned for its fine dining and luxury shopping. Courchevel 1850 boasts two hotels that are rated as ‘palaces’ and 11 hotels with a 5* rating.
The link between the different resort levels is very fast. It is four minutes by road between 1650 and 1850 (2.5 km) five minutes by gondola lift or chair lift to get to 1850 from 1550 eight minutes by gondola lift to get to 1850 from Le Praz.
Skiing as high as 2738 metres on the Saulire Mountain, the skiing and boarding season lasts from early December until the end of April.
New for 2012
The four-seater Plantrey chairlift at Courchevel 1850 will be replaced by a six-seater chairlift increasing capacity from 2400 to 3000 skiers an hour. The loading area will also be improved.
