From Calais it is about and 680 miles to Les Coches. There are two autoroutes/peages that can be taken, these are the French motorways. The autoroutes are toll roads, payment can be made by credit card or Euros.
- From CALAIS follow the A26 towards REIMS and onto TROYES. Follow the autoroute towards and around DIJON and join the A6 at BEAUNE towards LYON. On to the A43 at LYON towards CHAMBERY and follow the autoroute to ALBERTVILLE. Follow the N90 to MOUTIERS.
- (Only use in the event of any problems with route 1)
From CALAIS follow the A26 then A1 to PARIS. Follow the ring road onto the A6 towards LYON. On to the A43 at LYON, towards CHAMBERY and follow the autoroute to ALBERTVILLE. Follow the N90 to MOUTIERS.
Once you reach Moutiers follow the RN 90 road signposted Bourg St Maurice. After 21 kms turn right onto a road signposted Landry, Montchavin and Les Coches. Cross the level crossing and take the first turning right (signposted Montchavin Les Coches) and follow the road for approx. half a km, then turn left for Montchavin (Montchavin now 7 km and Les Coches 10km). Follow this road and continue up the road past the turning into Montchavin village and the turning into the Les Coches village centre (there are 15 hair-pin bends).
- once past the turning into Les Coches take the third turning on the left. It is a very sharp left turn on to a narrow road. There is a small "Finlays" sign situated at this junction. Castor & Renard are at the end of this road on your right.
once past the turning into Les Coches carry on up the road passing the small "Finlays" sign for chalets Castor & Renard. Continue for approx. 800 metres, chalet Chamois is on your left just before a car park.
once past the turning into Les Coches carry on up the road passing the small "Finlays" sign for chalets Castor & Renard. Continue for approx. 800 metres, chalet Campanules is on your right on the inside of a hairpin bend in the road.
- once past the turning into Les Coches carry on up the road passing the small "Finlays" sign for chalets Castor & Renard. Continue for approx. 800 metres, where the road terminates in a car park you continue around the hairpin bend to your right Pierra Menta is the first chalet on your left.
The roads are normally clear of snow until Moutiers but from then on, it may prove necessary to use chains. It can snow at any time, even in late spring, and the police often stop vehicles before they start the climb to the resorts in order to ensure that chains are on the wheels. Vehicles that do not have chains will not be allowed to commence the ascent.
- Green Card - the international comprehensive car insurance. This is
normally given automatically on request from your Insurance Company.
- Spare set of car light bulbs.
- Warning triangle.
- All documentation relating to the car - registration, insurance, MOT etc..
- A "GB" sticker on the rear of your vehicle.
