The resort itself forms the "alpenarena", the largest interlinked ski area in the canton of Graubunden. It is a sunny resort, overlooking the Vorderrhein valley and is perfect for snowboarding and cross-country, as well as downhill skiing. |
There are excellent indoor facilities for ice-skating, curling and tennis, and the indoor pools, whirlpools, saunas and solarium at various hotels are open to non-residents. A superb toboggan run from Foppa to Flims, some 60 kms of cross-country ski trails including 3km piste which is floodlit on certain nights of the week and many miles of cleared paths for winter walking complete the extensive package of facilities on offer. Night-time entertainment is varied and lively, with among the choices, a live music bar, a discotheque, and the Caverna, a traditional wine cellar with lots of atmosphere.
Skiing in the "alpenarena" gives you access to around 220 kms of pistes and the modern transport and lift system can cater for 34,000 passengers per hour. Good snow conditions are guaranteed on the Vorab glacier and the longest downhill run from there to Flims is a superb 9 miles. The 4 mile run from Vorab to Alp Ruschein is notable and of course the World Cup descent from Crap Sogn Gion to Laax is a real challenge. Cassongrat and La Siala are two further ski areas on the Flims side.

The same magnificent ski area but 2 very different towns. There are excellent cruising runs in all of this ski area. Klosters is a comfortable, quiet village with a much more appealing Alpine feel to it over neighbouring Davos. |
Davos is definitely the place to stay if you are a snowboarder as the Jakobshorn (the main snowboarder's hill) is reached by 2 lifts out of Davos Platz. Davos does just look like a big grey town as you drive in but is very popular due to its huge joint ski area with Klosters and extensive facilities of the town.
